Mozart
W.A.Mozart (1756-1791)

Born in Salzburg, Austria on January 27, 1756 Mozart is in a small league of undisputed masters of classical music, and is considered by some as the true epitome of musical genius. Absorbing the innovations of fellow-Austrian Franz-Joseph Haydn, Mozart perfected the so-called Classical style and contributed masterworks to every musical genre of his day: piano sonatas, string quartets, symphonies, concertos, operas, and many others.

One can only imagine what this prolific man, who died a pauper in 1791 at the age of 35, would think of the universal appeal his music possesses over two centuries after his passing. Certainly he would be pleased to know that his natural affinity for beautiful melody, rich harmony, and formal clarity is recognized with such admiration by audiences around the globe. Our brief anthology traces Mozart development from an early vocal work from 1767 (written at the age of 11!) to his haunting Requiem Mass, left incomplete at his death - with a mix of familiar and little-known works of all genres in between.
